BESSY III is being designed to answer scientific questions we can only partly imagine today – and its instrument portfolio is still open. This survey is your chance to help shape it! We are looking for feedback from the user community – past, present and potential future users – on the planning of the BESSY III instruments. The questionnaire is modular and takes just a few minutes for a first pass, with room to go deeper wherever you have concrete ideas. It works equally well for expert synchrotron users and for scientists without a strong background in X-ray experiments – no prior expertise is needed to tell us what would matter for your research.
In section A, we ask about your general needs for BESSY III – it takes about 10 minutes to complete.
In the BESSY III CDR, we will present a set of 7 Signature Instruments as the starting point of the BESSY III portfolio. In section B, we ask how useful these instruments are for your research – choose how many instruments you want to comment on. In case you don’t know the instruments yet, a summary of each instrument is provided.
In the next couple of years, we will extend the BESSY III instrument portfolio beyond the Signature Instruments, involving user groups. As a first step, we welcome ideas for further instruments in section C – this may be very brief, or you can add more details if you already have a concept in mind. We would welcome your involvement in the following stages of the portfolio process.
